I love these toy hamsters, too! I bought one for my daughter who fell in love with PipSqueak, the little yellow Zhu Zhu hamster. It’s been her favorite toy for months. These litle hamsters really make great gifts.

Who would have thought these furry little critters would have been so popular…you’d be lucky to get these guys for love nor money at this stage and I imagine the desperation will go up a few more notches as we approach Christmas.
Love these little guys…I’m sure they are only a passing whimsy for most kids, but some people are even suggesting that they are a good primer for young children that want to keep real pets…like a 101 pet care program for prospective cat owners.

I read on one site that they would be introducing new pets in the new year…skunks, squirrels and wild animals like that. Certainly add to the fun watching different species of robotic animals interacting together…but would the hamsters let the skunk into the funhouse (and would he come with an odor?)

he zhu zhu pets should/would have already been tested and found to met the standards or Amazon, Target, Toysrus could be fined like $150,000 per incident. What better way to make a name for yourself than to claim the hottest selling toy is dangerous
Zhu Zhu pets have been quite the seller this year! Pen is right when he says that targeting a hot holiday product with controversy is a good way to make a name for yourself.

I think my cats loved the Zhu Zhu pets more than my kids! They went bonkers, chasing them all over the kitchen. We got a good laugh.

I don’t know about cats but my little pug fell in love with Zhu Zhu. He just forget to eat when I show him and the eating is one of his hobbies. That’s why I use it for rewards only. He has to deserve it:)

They were sold out pretty quickly. And then there was some sort of warning about the materials. I don’t remember if they were thought to be toxic or what but it sure didn’t seem to slow them up.
I know these were hot toys this year for the kids – do you know if they can also be used as pet toys? It seems like cats would LOVE these things!
You’re right! Cats do love these – I’ve heard of a lot of people buying them for pet toys. I would only be careful of leaving them unattended with pets.
Our son was lucky enough to find one of these at Target. I guess we taught him well since he sold his to his friend at a profit!
